When saturated for at least 24 hours, 10-20mm LECA^® LWA is likely to absorb approximately 30% by weight of water with a resultant bulk density in the order of 500kg/m³

Description:
Genuine and original LECA^® LWA distributed prepacked in the UK by Specialist Aggregates.

Expanded clay granules are made by pelletising and firing selected clay in a rotary kiln at a very high temperature. As it is fired, the organic compounds in the clay vaporise forcing the pellets to expand and become honeycombed while the outside surface of each granule fuses to a ceramic shell. The resulting granules are lightweight, porous, and have a good resistance to crushing.

Being a natural product expanded clay aggregate contains no harmful substances, it is inert with neutral pH, The granules are resistant to frost and chemicals, and will not break down in water. They are also non-combustible and have excellent sound and thermal insulation properties, further they can be used with cement to make a non structural lightweight concrete suitable for fake rocks, theatre props and lightweight repairs.

Application & Use:
Top quality clean general purpose expanded lightweight clay with a minimum of fines backed by the worldwide LECA^®LWA brand. The product is a dark grey/brown colour and offered for use in situations where aesthetics are not a prime consideration, in particular:

Horticulture: As a substrate in hydroponics, and blended with other growing media to improve drainage and provide insulation.

Green Roofs: The web contains advice on many and often contradictory methods for producing green roofs. Nevertheless 10-20mm Leca^® LWA provides the definitive product for bottom and peripheral drainage. To create lightweight soils we would recommend 4-10mm grade Leca^® LWA.

Backfill to structures: Especially for situations of restricted access for example back gardens and roof terraces to houses and shopping malls and for providing lightweight fill to planters .

Compaction: Typically the product is likely to compact by 8-12% from its delivered un-compacted state to a long term compacted state above the water table.

This product option is supplied packed in safe and easy to handle weatherproof packs stacked on a wooden pallet. Packs are stretch wrapped onto the pallet for added protection and security. For quantities of less than 12 packs see our discounted single pack courier delivery option.

Pallets are delivered by national couriers and off-loaded onto a level hard-standing using vehicle tail-lift and pallet truck. Our couriers do not offer a crane (Hiab) off-load facility.

Pallet deliveries by national couriers are not advised for locations with narrow or difficult access. Please advise during checkout or contact our office for advice if you have specific delivery requirements or concerns.

Failed deliveries due to problems with access which as not been pre-notified will be returned to our warehouse and charged for both outward and return delivery,

The immediate product wrapping, pallet stretch wrap and wooden pallet can all be recycled.
