Lock down tidy up unearths the Boss' "Apprenticeship".

Three decades on Steve now with his own company Specialist Aggregates, and is still involved in supplying feature rocks for active play areas and river revetment schemes.

Full Story:

If you are looking for a skid resistant road surface, need to keep back the advancing sea or require rocks to build a bat cave Steve Le Chevalier could be your man.

As Sales manager for Special products, Steve has one of the more unusual jobs and is kept busy tapping areas of new potential.

The supply of chippings that resist polishing to create skid resistant road surfaces is an area in which Tarmac is a UK market leader, offering top quality stone from Callow Hill Bayston Hill (in Shropshire) or Triscombe Quarry (in Somerset ).

One of its biggest contracts involves the widening of the M5 between Worcester and Tewkesbury, where it will deliver 12,000 tonnes of pre-coated material.

Applying skid resistant surfaces to concrete motorways isn’t as easy but Tarmac’s chippings allied to specially formulated resin have given motorists a safer surface on the M20 in Kent.
Armour stone has an equally important social role in defending vulnerable parts of Britain’s coastline form the advancing sea. Tarmac is supplying huge five tonne blocks to various east coast projects and Steve is building up business with river defences, marinas, sewage outfalls and piers for the new Dartford Bridge.

And the bat cave? That order came from an enthusiast in Hertfordshire who set out to set out to create habitats for endangered species by using massive concrete pipes and surrounding them with blocks of limestone.
