RSPB Feature at Gardeners World Live 2013

Full Story:

Congratulations to staff and volunteers at RSPB on completing their hexagonal shaped Show Feature in time for this week’s Gardeners World Live Exhibition (NEC Birmingham 12th - 16th June 2013).

The feature entitled “Together we can give nature a home” depicts six distinct habitats celebrating the rich and diverse nature of RSPB reserves from the wildest sea-cliffs to heather strewn moorlands. From the displays and knowledgeable staff visitors will be able to glean encouragement and ideas on ways of giving nature a home in their own garden.

Specialist Aggregates’ involvement started back in March when Claire Hoskins-Blount, Events Project Manager for the RSPB approached the company not only to seek advice on rocks for the feature but also to discuss if it would be possible to return materials after the exhibition. Working with the RSPB ( Recycle Sand Pebbles and Boulders??) struck an immediate cord and we just had to get involved!

Our images show water worn limestone and pebbles being used to depict the coastal section at Bempton Cliffs, which prior to this involvement we have to admit we had not heard of. On research we discovered that the cliffs and their colonies of Puffins and Gannets are located just north of Flamborough Head - the classic chalk cliff topped with squidgy boulder clay in East Yorkshire that everyone has studied in geography.

The RSPB could not exist without its supporters and members. You can join, give a donation, purchase items or undertake voluntary work by contacting them through their web site. www.rspb.org.uk
